Why is my iguana such a spaz?

Hi, I just got a baby iguana a couple weeks ago, took him home and put him in a very nice enviroment, great for his size, I try to handle him everyday for atleast 30 min, but it never fails he is such a spaz when go to grab him, and after i do grab him he calms down, but all the suden he will freak out again and want to run from my hand, and he only eats when i leave the house or am no where near his line of sight. i know it's only been a couple weeks but its so frustrating it seems like he will never calm down and be tame. I know it takes awhile for a iguana to get fully tamed and i know some do not get tame at all, but I do not want to own a untamed iquana, how long should i wait for him to calm down and tame a little before i get rid of him? does anybody have some examples on how long it took for your iguana to get tammed??
