Paint or new cedar shingles?

We have 30 yr old barnboard siding on our homes exterior in OK condition. My husband wants to replace it with new dipped cedar shingles for $22,000 & I want to repaint for $6,000. We are planning on selling in about 3/4 yrs. My husband says barnboard is old fashion and we will get the money back when we sell but I'm not sure of that. What should we do?
